Legal services have to follow times and modern life, understanding people rhythms, people moods, people reactivity, people runnings, joy and despair.
A lawyer shall become a revolutionary road where competence marries smart working. No excuse. Each client walking trough a legal affair, has to know exactly where she or he is. In the context of a modern, sparkling and dizzy existence. In the era of running and information blasting and technology, a lawyer has to learn the language of emotions and emoticons, legally intended, too. Flowery language, speaking and writing, doesn’t help anymore, but makes distance between the client and her/his representative: a lawyer shall communicate in a direct, emphatic way with the client, through easy and speedy words, like the language of social networks: the private dialogue with the advocated has to step out in a consolidated connection, considering the holistic sense of human kind: the fullness of the humanity resident in each legal case to solve.
Mindfulness is the key, the mandatory skill together with knowledge of laws , regulations, contracts, subjects, clauses, agreements, arguments, transactions…
To be mindful, smart and confident for a lawyer means today to unfold the black side of the moon of her/his job, to enter in a sea where waves are committed to ferry the client towards the serendipity, the consciousness, the comprehension of the legal matter before its resolution, I mean, to accepting “the problem” first of all, to recognizing it.
A lawyer is not simply an advocate, she/he shall become a coach, a legal coach for all clients. Then, all capacity in law and codes, in eloquence, in strategy and defence, must follows, of course. But without that consciousness and emotional intelligence, without that empathy and that ability to make profound human connection, no power of attorney would survive to any first obstacle. Not nowadays. Where it’s easier to texting than to speaking, where it’s easier to cheating through whatsapp than saying “I love You” without an IG story.
